H–SEARCHHeritage Science Elastic Archives

Work package 1

Choosing the records that matter

Develop a consistent way to prioritise the archive, then assemble a representative set of dossiers to test preservation and access workflows.

Purpose and approach

With around 20,000 dossiers in the proposal’s archive baseline, processing the entire collection is a long-term undertaking. H-SEARCH focuses on a carefully chosen subset to develop and test a method that can continue beyond the project.

Tasks & planned deliverables

Month numbers are relative to the proposed project start. They do not indicate confirmed completion dates.

Task 1.1 · Months 1–12

Establish selection and evaluation criteria

Develop a protocol that considers the heritage value of the object, scientific value of the data, research demand, completeness and representation of the institute’s activities. Applying the protocol to real dossiers will help refine it.

Task lead: Véronique Van der Stede

Planned deliverables

  • D.1.1.1
Draft selection and evaluation protocolMonth 6
  • D.1.1.2
    Selection and evaluation protocolMonth 12

Task 1.2 · Months 7–15

Compile the evaluation dossier set

Select closed intervention dossiers for the digital archive and repository. The set should cover paper, hybrid and digital-born records and provide practical feedback to the selection protocol.

Task lead: Julie Mauro

Planned deliverables

  • D.1.2.1
List of dossiers for evaluating the archival proceduresMonth 15

How this work connects

The selected dossiers feed both WP.2 and WP.3. Testing those workflows in turn helps improve the selection protocol.
